Bad Customer Service Rip Off | Best Buy review from Washington, District Of Columbia

Update by user May 27, 2012

Still not going to Best Buy. Maybe one day they will hire knowledgeable people who value and respect the customer. When the manager and supervisors don\'t give a hoot what else can one do.

I called sprint and they told me how to reset to factory. On line forum suggestions didn\'t work, those appear to be mainly for rooted phones. I was glad to have my phone back but minus the progress on all games, some apps no longer available unfortunately, but still taking up some space on my old sd card which I added to the new one. reinstalling the other apps doesn\'t allow one to access the old info.

I highly recommend saving data on line or another type of storage and then duplicating that since the main search engine company that provides this currently has some flaws still.

purchased an SD card to upgrade me cellphone capacity, was given simple, straightforward hand written instructions on my receipt, the employee was nice seemed knowledgeable and i left the store feeling very comfortable with purchase. well, the instructions failed to include mounting and unmounting and when i installed the new sd card my cell phone would not reboot, it was stuck in a continuous boot loop with sprint logo over and over i couldnt even turn it off had to remove battery. Many hours in forums etc, realizing his simple directions were flawed and i shouldnt have trusted this company i cleared the new sd card and went back to the store for an explanation as to why they gave bad advice and demand they accept some responsibility. btw my phone after this would not even accept my original sd card. spoke with someone at the door who chuckled with a look as though he was familiar with this type oc thing and directed me to cust service. spoke with the young female cashier who was completely ignorant in dealing with customers with any complaints asked for the manager, got yet another rep, told him my speal. asked for the manager again, got a supervisor who said he did not know much about phones etc but for a service fee could have them look at it. mind you had i not followed their explicit directions i would not needto pay for these screw ups to take another crack at possibly bricking my phone or ensuring i lose everything on it. they try to place blame elsewhere, my phone, me, corruption etc. i purchased the pny? brand 32Gb SD card for $69.99 found a more reliable card and brand sandisc same brand that came with my evo 4g interesting enough and same brand as my nikon camera uses very reliable, at radio shack for $30 cheaper after storming out of the store vowing never to return. they all stood around watching to see how their supervisor was going to handle the fact they damaged my phone, one i do not want to replace/upgrade etc, one i use as a pda. they refuse to acknowledge their error, and have no desire to ensure or attempt to minimize it happening to others. they also failed to refund me all my money by mistake. i am not bothering to return ever. crooks. they train their employees to generate more sales through their geek squad. its despicable. later called the manage, yet another *** who said i have never heard of that occurring. *** needs to be forthcoming, happens too often. if they dont know what they are doing they should not advise anyone, nor should they be selling all kinds of phones from mulitple carriers. they say to return to HTC or carrier knowing warranties are rarely over a yr unless u purchase, another way they generate revenue. they all refused to take responsibility, i never got an apology for the bad advuce and only until i recommend they offer customers a discount after damaging their phone did he agree to give me a discount on service fee for them to look at it. i passed on them screwing up my phone permanently as i hope to retrieve some of the internal data. do not trust these people especially management. none of them went to that dept to see if someone there might have a solution. since then i discovered that pkny? brand has numerous problems. best buy should have known that, i believe they do and it probably brings in alot of customers for their service dept. they wanted to charge me $100 . Why do customers put with this? Go elsewhere the deals are better.

Bait and Switch 42' LED LG LCD by Managers' | Best Buy review from Washington, District Of Columbia

On 2/18/12 I purchased an open box 42' LED LG LCD for the Woodmoore Towne Center Best Buy. On this day i was looking to for a Superbowl return and came across this tv. I was not on display so I was unable to test it before purchase but I figured it would be good since they have a 30 day return policy. All was fine was the purchase until I was leaving out the the store I had been in the store for maybe a 30 mins looking around after to had purchased the TV (it was with me in the cart). As you know BB policy requires you to present your recipt on exit. While doing so the TV was taken from the cart by the Entertainment Mgr. and and presented me with a different TV. To my surprise I asked why he swapped my TV for another OPEN BOX TV (the same one as I purchased) because he said someone had purchased the TV I had been walking around with a few hours earlier. That made no since to me cause if that was the case why wasn't it removed from the floor and why did the saleperson sell me the TV. A big arguement was created and the GM Prasad got involved. He snatched the recipt from my had and told me that I dont need your money we will just return you your money after we sold you a TV and now we are going to exchange it from another. The whole dilema lasted another 30 mins with cops having to be called to provide order to the store since this whole problem was front and center at the main exit and entrance. The OPS Mgr. had to resolve the problem by checking that the TV they swapped to give was in working condition. Which it was thankfully. After all of this I will never shop with Best Buy again. Their service is unprofessional and I hope they become another Big Box Store that falls to ECom businesses. I would hope that no one would have to go through what I had to for a purchase at BB.

What motivation would the poster have for making up a story like this? You and Simon have become so bitter from working retail customer service that you hate the customer in any situation.

As if that's a type of person, as if you yourself are not a customer at times. A lot of people treat customer service badly, I get that. However, this company has a ton of complaints against it and clearly has unethical practices as well as bad service.

Why defend a company that abuses people like that? If you are really just company shills then you're doing a poor job of trying to show the company in a better light.

It looks as if Best Buy has got a lot of complaints. This sure makes me think twice before buying anything from Best Buy!

After that episode, I'm sure you won't be missed. Please stay far away from any and all retail stores.

Best buy came through!

After posting my complaint last night about Best Buy, I called and spoke to a different manager today. I related the entire scenario of what had happened to him. He was receptive, pleasant and helpful. He arranged to have someone over within an hour to fix the problem. So today I am very pleased with Best Buy in Marina, CA, because they at least have one manager there that understands their legal responsibilities to consumers. I also want to encourage others that maybe if they get a *** one time, they should persevere until they find someone to talk to who is a bit more on the ball!

Best Buy sold a gas stove at a price which quoted free delivery and installation. When gas line needed an adaptor, the installers left and said it was my responsibility, even though installation was "free". The manager denied that the contract said that - even though...

Sounds like either there was a problem with your gas line in your home or you are using Propane instead of Natural Gas. Either way you need a licensed professional to do that work. Some Best Buy store do either have those people or contract them out. You need to make sure you know of any problems before going in. The contract you sign does outline this info on it.

As long as there are no problems with the gas line, then it is free installation.

This sounds like either you are complaining about something that is your fault or a salesperson did not give you enough information. Either way you have a copy of the contract and it is your responsibility to read it before signing.

Don't Buy Best Buy & Geek Squad's ext. warrantee

I bought a dishwasher from Best Buy and purchased their extended warrantee. 2 years later the dishwasher broke so I called to have it repaired. But while repairing the dishwasher, the Geek Squad repair person broke a water line to my sink. the cost for a plummer to come out to repair came to $200.00. I have called the supervisor, and left 3 messages. Then I called the supervisor's supervisor and left an additional two messages. Not once did I receive a return phone call from either one of them! That will be the last time I buy a warrantee from them.

Pretty sure you should have called the Geek Squad first before the Plumber. They gaurantee their work, not your plumber.

Best Buy Customer Service

About 3 months ago, I went shopping for a new TV. I went to a Best Buy store in Golden, CO and found the TV I wanted in a few minutes. The first salesman went to check on someone else while I was still searching. After he finished with those people, he helped two other customers who came in after me while I was waiting. Then a assistant manager approached and asked if I needed help. Grateful, I explained I wanted to buy the TV and his best response was he'd get someone to help me. He wandered off to who knows where and I never saw him again. Meanwhile, the original salesman helped two more customers who again came in after me. After waiting 45 min, flagging down a total of four different store agents, and still unable to get someone to sell me a TV, I left. To me, this was beyond bad. I've spent a lot of money at Best Buy over the years on DVDs, TV, and various other electronics. And there I was ready to drop $800 on a new TV and they just kept helping and checking out other people. As a result, I refuse to shop at Best Buy now and I have shared this story with all my friends. The amazing part was #1 they weren't surprised and had other difficulties with the chain and #2 I read it was listed as one of the top 10 most hated companies due to poor customer service. Imagine that. If anyone from Best Buy reads this, which I doubt they will since they obviously don't care about the customer, I've made several purchases since this event from your competitors and I actually feel good that your company won't see a dime of my money. I'll gladly give it to your competition and look forward to the day that you are out of business.

A lot of times this behavior occurs when you are buying an advertised TV and/or the other customers are buying extra unnecessary services such as protection plans.

"Not everyone can sell TV's," if it is already picked out, most of us don't need the nonsense of Monster cables and Geek Squad Black Tie Deception plans.

B.S! Seems you failed to read what he's complaining about, NO one helped him, but they helped other people that arrived after him.

I would have walked long before he did.

Even the manager blew him off!!!

You are way over-reacting. Not everyone can sell tv's, which is why the departments are seperated. But regardless, they were helping other customers, not just standing around.

Store pickup hiram ga. store gave the wrong ipod upon pickup. | Best Buy review from Washington, District Of Columbia

wrong ipod touch. order white got black. was sons christmas present. he wanted white. wife did not notice. and i didnot look (my bad).bestbuy is having a bad season for customer service. will take a hard toll. with consumers and stock holders this year.but we can not let it fall. we already lost a major player in eletronics.(circuit city) and it took a big hurt in the u.s economy. alot of people lost there jobs. if you take a good look at the big picture. all employees from the person that pull the product for pickups to the c.e.o. must take stock in your job. so you can keep it.

Commercials | Best Buy review from Washington, District Of Columbia

Cant believe your commercials are all about beating Santa. Very poor taste. Not Funny at all. Hate your commercials. Very very disappointed consumer. Little children watching the commercials are upset about Santa, why would you think your better than Santa. Commercials should make you like the store and it's products. Why not help Santa instead of kicking him off the roof and trying to scare him. Who thought this was a great sceme to try and out do Santa rather then promote a nice store helping Santa. Next year I hope you have a better marketing team doing your commercials.

I need to come clean. I am a worthless best buy employee who likes to peel one off while watching grandmas shop via our security cameras. Sorry I'm such a POS guys - my sponsor told me to tell the truth...

Totally agree with above post. Commercials really put a damper on the Christmas spirit. I am sure it was not Best Buy's intent but the commercials do reflect how most of American society has become selfish, aggressive and mean spirited.

Best Buys Custome Service is beyond Unsatisfactory

I want to start off this complaint by saying I have been a loyal customer since age 12 when I could buy video games and music. After 12 years of many purchases, my significant other had purchased online at Best Buy.com a 'Managers Chair'. I had just got promoted and this was the perfect gift for me. She got it in the mail, gave it to me wrapped up and I opened later as I live many hours away from her. Upon opening it, the handle on the hydraulic lift so the chair goes up and down was already cracked and the 5-6 spoke base where each individual wheel attaches had scruff marks on it like it was used. I felt so angry because of the hassle I would now have to go thru. She watched me open it on Skype and saw how disappointed I was. Well things happen and I said that's okay lets just return it and get another one. She called and was told "take it to a store and have them order another one to be delivered to your place or to the store so you can pick up." Easy enough. I went into the Best Buy in Pyramid Mall, Ithaca NY. Spoke to an Erik in customer service, who to be honest, after working in retail for so long, hes got to go. He clearly has no communication skills and seems he is to defend the company at all cost and not even listen to my concerns. So without saying a word he scans and types in all my packages info with the order number, asks for my drivers ID and very rudely ask 'Would you like a refund to pick one out in store?" 'No. I want this one but not broken.' "Well its from Best Buy Online, so there is absolutely nothing I can do.' Doesn't make sense to me because someone on corporates customer service level said you would order me one'. 'Well it doesn't work that way, would you like the refund?' Seeing $97 and some change on the screen, I said why not. So expecting 97$ to be returned I felt okay about the product and company but mad at Erik. After scanning a gift card, he says you now have 44$ on here and 53$ went on your mastercard. 'Wait hold up. You did not explain it would be split up'. I want the refund so I don't have to bother my other at 11 am in the morning. And this is what I get, the reason why I am never coming back to Best Buy ... 'Well its now final and there's nothing I can do at this point ... I can Help the next person!" Really? I am the customer and I promise you this is what happened. I get a broken used chair in the mail, call for directions, and go to the store level and meet this untrained employee. I am done with this company if you support Eriks behavior and I recommend communication training for all employees. But I would like to give you, the company, a chance to make things right. Email is best and I encourage you to contact me as I have always done business with you.

Vero Beach, Fl. Best Buy SUCKS

Bought a flat screen TV for our conference room from the BEST BUY in Vero Beach, Florida. We are a non-profit and very careful with out expendutures. The TV screen was broken when we opened the box. BEST Buy's manager said she could not do anything and walked away after telling us to bring the TV back in as they had others in stock. After going through 4 members of their customer relations department Best Buy offered us a $99.00 gift card to purchase another flat screen. No I'm sorry just stuck with a broken TV.
