Best Buy LIES!

We purchased a frig and 5 year extended warranty from Best Buy in 2001- it had a defect and it was replaced with an LG. We were told the extended warranty continued to the LG. The LG was a lemon and required constant service and should have been replaced under the lemon law (was serviced at least a half dozen times). LIE #1 Best Buy serviced it for 18 months and then I was denied service stating the extended warranty did NOT cover the replacement. I fought Best Buy and even LG for 3 years and finally filed a complaint to Consumer Affairs. I swore I would never deal with Best Buy again. LIE #2 Best Buy responded to Consumer Affairs and stated they honored the terms of the extended warranty. I called the person at Best Buy who wrote the response letter to Consumer Affairs and gave him my phone logs of every call to Best Buy for service, and told him I was denied service less than 3 years into the original warranty. Best Buy gave me a Gift Card for the cost of the frig, but would not give me a check. I tried to sell the Gift Card for it's value without success. So we went to Best Buy and picked a frig and financed the balance through BB credit. It was an "Open Box", and the french doors were not aligned properly. The salesperson told us that the offset doors was a leveling issue and would be fixed by the installers. LIE #3 When the frig was delivered, the installers said there was nothing they could do about the mis-aligned doors. The french doors didn't work in our kitchen as we have a wall on the right side, preventing it from opening all the way. I researched online for replacements and we went back to Best Buy with five different models selected. Best Buy was unable to get any of them even though they carried other models by the same manufacturer. The only other model they carried was LG which we did not want after the last purchase. I asked our salesperson (Brad) if Best Buy was unable to get a frig of our choice and in light of our use of a Gift Card, how would a refund be handled? The employee told me that a "refund check" would be mailed to us within TWO DAYS of the return of the frig. Not taking any chances, I called Best Buy the next day and spoke to a different salesperson (Jose) for a "second opinion" since I didn't trust Best Buy any longer. I described our use of a Gift Card in the purchase and asked specifically about how the refund would be given back to me. Jose told me that a "refund check" would be issued TWO DAYS after the return of the frig. I figured with two identical statements, it would be safe to purchase our frig from another vendor. I scheduled our new frig to be delivered on July 23rd. I scheduled our Best Buy frig to be picked up on the 24th. I called Best Buy credit and informed them of the pick up and the time frame given by Best Buy for a credit. LIE #4 Today is August 7th (2 weeks later) and no refund check and no credit issued to the credit card company. I called Best Buy and asked Brad the salesperson where is my check and credit. He said he had been real busy, there were computer issues, yada yada. He said he would get to it today and get the "Gift Card" issued. LIE #5 I reminded him of what he told me as well as Jose. He said he didn't know if that was possible and put me on hold, but didn't come back on. I called back and spoke with the store manager, Mike Solomon, who said a gift card refund is "store policy" regardless of what I was told. I called Best Buy Corporate Customer Relations and spoke to Jean & Dana, who said "sorry, pay with a gift card, get a gift card back. The card doesn't have any value so we can't issue you a check". Strangely, it had value when we purchased. I filed another complaint with Consumer Affairs. I will again try to sell the Gift Card at less than face value and try to take Best Buy to court for whatever I was shorted. So now I have a bill for another frig and a Best Buy Gift Card that I will NEVER use. I'm done with Best Buy. I'm tired of their lies.

Best Buy-Don't Buy- Customer Service - Stinks

We bought a Sony 51" TV from Best Buy with an extended warranty. Well one night the TV went black and the sound remained. We called Best Buy on July 18th. A service technition was sent out a week later. He was here less than five minutes and said it was the computer board and he needed to order a new part. I told my husband we were in real trouble now. A week later he showed up with the part and low and behold, that wasn't the problem. He would have to order another part for the picture tube. He would call us and let us know what is going on. When he didn't call us, my husband called and after having to go through ten minutes of pressing 1 for ......, we were told the part had been ordered. On Saturday, August 2 we received a call telling us the part was in and they will call us for a service date. On Wednesday August 6, I call them since they haven't called us and they said the part won't be delivered until August 21st. Don't know about the service date. Now I ask to speak to a manager. I ask the manager for a different technician since this guy obviously does not know what he is doing and it looking like we are going to be without a TV for a couple of months now and are going to miss the Olympics. She said all technicians are trained and we are not permitted to change technicians. I asked to speak to her manager and she said she is the corporate manager and I could not talk to anyone else. I think we are being treated this way because we bought the warranty and they lack customer service. Anyone else have any ideas?

My husband and I are having the same problem. Our TV went black on July 25, 2008.

They insisted on replacing the lamp, which is of course on back order and a "maintenance issue" not a "repair" They finally came out to replace the lamp on August 25. The TV worked for just about 2 hours and quit again... this time we had sound but no picture. The tech came out again on the 26th and have been waiting for a balast and an optics box ever since.

Supposedly the balast has shipped, but the Optics Box is backordered until October 4.

They refuse to approve a replacement request even though our TV has been out for more than a month and insist that we wait to see if the parts ship earlier. It is infuriating!

This comes up a lot. Each BB employee must be a manager because you can never escalate an issue to someone higher. You should sue them.

Misleading description on collectors music cd's

Recently bought 3 music collector cd's from Best Buy. They were produced by The Madacy Group in Canada. Supposedly they were to be original artists like The Platters, The Dell Vikings, Tom Jones etc. Well come to find out that they are in fact original artists...but they are the cheap, crummy knockoffs of the old original songs, using the original aging artists! Who wants to hear The Platters singing at 60 or 70 years old....they sound terrible. I wrote to Best Buy and The Madacy Group asking for a refund or a credit..so far no response from them. I recently read that just last month The Madacy Group had massive cancellations from Wal-Mart! Wal-Mart sells or sold the same *** imitation cd collections, but I guess complaints about the misleading advertising on the Madacy Group cd's forced Wal-Mart to cancel orders. Good for Wal-Mart...Best -Buy should follow suit. I am going to pursue this untill I get a refund or an in store credit. I hope folks will be careful when buying these fancy packaged music cd "Oldie Collections" from Best-Buy and other retailers. Watch out..the labels say "Original artists...New stereo recordings!" What the ***...it doesn't say you'll hear original songs sung by original aging artists! Some of these guys and gals must be in their 70's..trying to sing like when they were teenagers! Gimme a break!

Best Buy The Worst

Whenever I visit a Best Buy in Miami the associates are less than 21 yrs old and all seem to be "hanging out". When asked where I could find an item two associates were miffed that I interrpted their flirting. The reply was "the last time I saw them I think they were somewhere like over there". Later I tried to reach the car stereo installers and no one answered the phone for two days. When I wrote an Email to corporate Customer Service, I was told to try again! " I understand how upsetting it is to be on hold for a large amount of time, but believe me if we would have a way to help you from here, we wouldn't ask you to go trough that. I would recommend you, instead of trying with the store, to contact the Geek Squad department at their toll free number, 1-88*-433-****. The above is the response.

Best Buy Return Problems!!!

I recently purchased a computer at Best Buy for $2100 and realized that it was not working properly 3 days later. I brought the defective machine in, and a *** girl turned it on and barely looked at it before telling me it was fine and I was wrong. The manager then arrived and told us that we would not be given our money back without a 15% penalty, and that if we were not willing not accept his terms, he would have us escorted out of the store. His name was Martin Burkhead. He then walked away from us!

Purchased Unusable Software from Bestbuy

I purchased a new version of an antivirus program from Bestbuy and was told by them that I first would have to delete the old version first, which I did. Then I paid $39.95 for the new version of "Trend Antivirus" which was a good product. I tried then after opening the software to load it and could not, because it required parts of the old version to be present. When I took the product back to Bestbuy, they refused to refund my money, since the package had been opened!!! A rip off!! They are bait and switch artists and I will never deal with them again.

Speak to a manager, plain and simple. Be informed that every store has some sort of opened software policy, but I'm sure if you explain this to the manager they'll get you all set up.

Best Buy tried to steal from us

My wife received 2 palm pilots for Christmas a couple years ago. The lesser of of the two came with a BestBuy.com gift receipt. My wife then tried to return it to the nearest store (60 miles away) and the clerk was very helpful until....... she said she had a problem. She called the manager over help. He explained the product was from BestBuy.com and could not be returned to the store. My wife was disappointed she made the trip but said she would mail it back to Bestbuy.com, but the manager of the Coralville store said he could not give her the item back because it had been run through the register as a return and he would be short the $100 if he didn't have the item to show for it. She said fine she would take the $100 instead, but he said he couldn't do that either because it wasn't from a, "brick and mortar" location. After a heated discussion, my wife left with nothing and relayed the story to me at home. I called the store the next morning and spoke to the store manager (who was the same person who dealt with my wife) and explained the problem. He said there was nothing he could do. After more discussion he said he would give a $100 gift card but he would have to fire the original gal who helped my wife and I would be responsible for that. I hung up and called the corporate office and was put on a 3 way conference call with the manger and verified the story. The corporate office told me to return to the store (120 miles round trip) and pick up my refund.

You said that it could not be returned, but you also said that it had been rung through as a return. Bestbuy.com purchases can be returned in store, it happens all the time.

Plus if the register accepted the return there would of been no problem. If it didn't the product would not be part of BB inventory so they would of given it right back to you.

Shady practices...

I can't believe after spending so much money at Best Buy they could try to rip us off on the extended warranty. I bought an ipod a couple years back (with the extended warranty) and it has broken 4 times. After having the same problem (they said at first three and now it's four) times, they are supposed to replace it with a new one. Well when we go to get it replaced all of a sudden they only show us having it repaired once. FOUR different people 'looked' in their system and said they found nothing. We called corporated and two different people gave us completely different stories and only once we wanted to get their name because it was going to be placed on our report to the BBB did they transfer us to someone who miraculously found our 3 prior repairs. A bit suspicious don't you think? So we go back to the store, and they STILL make us send it out for repair again!! I truely believe they are going to give us refurbished pieces of trash until our warranty expires, they never intend of making good of their extended warranty. MY ADVICE, DON'T BUY THE WARRANTY!

Best Buy FRIDLEY ,MN

My husband and I bought a fridge from best buy. The Price was great for a maytag bottom freezer fridge. We are very happy with the product but not with best buy's delivery svc. They bought the fridge on the day we wanted it to be delivered and then informed us that they could not bring it inside the house due to a staircase in the entry way. The salesperson did not ask us anything about the layout of our home. We had no fridge the old one went out. We had to wait 4 more days for redelivery.

Best Buy LCD TV - INSIGNIA - Don't buy them

The picture is far beyond wonderful. Its crisp. It's brillant. The characters pop out right off the screen. I thought I had died and went to heaven. All my co-workers were dying to get one too. Best Buys couldn't keep them in stock. Buy it if you want. Better buy a warranty with it too. I think the pictures are programmed to go up right after (within days) of your manufacture warranty expiration. And Best Buys won't repair it. Not even at YOUR own expense either. They will tell you have the option to purchase a new one.

BEST BUY Took hardrive and destroyed information

Bought a PC from BEST BUY, when the PC failed to work I brought the defective PC to Best Buy (which was still under warranty) The GEEK sqaud (what a joke) kept it for a week, running tests, problem (according to their Geek squad) was NOT hardrive, sent PC to Best Buy repair facility to be repaired (don't do repairs in house), Best Buy store put on my paperwork NO NEED TO BACKUP AS IT WASN'T A HARD DRIVE ISSUE. When The Best Buy repair facility received it they said it was the hardrive and replace with new one, without calling me before it was done. When I tried to retrieve my information, was told it would cost me $350 to $1500. I lost my mothers pictures from her funeral (irreplaceable) because I did not have the money to get my data back. If I had known that I needed a backup I would have done it, but the BB store told me no need. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER PC FROM BEST BUY

If there's one thing I have learned, it's that you ALWAYS need a back up. Especially when sending a computer in for any type of repair.

But, also a good idea to have one around just in case the hard drive happens to fail (which can even happen in the first 2-3 months of buying it new).

Sorry to hear you lost your pictures. :sigh

Best Buy is the Worst

Went into Best Buy today to buy a Wii Fit. Sales guy went and found one for me in the back. It was the last one int he store. He walked me to the register where we were met by some managerial type *** who decided that my Wii Fit belonged to the lady standing in the checkout area who had allegedly "called to put it on hold" despite the fact that it had no note on it, was not set aside, and was found for me by the other sales guy. I asked what he thought he was doing (his name was Eaen), and he told me that she called. I said I called. He literally took it out of my hands. So surreal. Then he told me to leave because I was upset. I will never shop at Best Buy ever again. There is always another outlet. I already got a Wii Fit somewhere else.

We make more than 7.50 an hour like you guys so we expect top notch service and since you guys are too *** to provide that or give us all the information we are continually disappointed.

for example, if you dont TELL us about the rules or over capacity etc, we just believe what you lazy sorry idiots tell us. so stop commenting on these consumers complaints, you are lazy sorry and should be working digging ditches.

stop smoking your *** and find a real job. thanks

Another Best Buy Scam

I purchased a brand new Pioneer Elite Plasma Television for $2,939.99. It was being held at a Boston, MA store location until I was ready to receive shipment. I came to pick up the television to find the box had been opened and television was removed from the packaging. The sales associate assured me that it was "brand new" and was removed by mistake and was safely put back in the box, which was completely false. Upon further inspection, I noticed the unit was covered in layers of dust and looked to have been handled extensively. I then noticed that the serial number of the Pioneer television did not match the serial number on the box that it was said to come in. The product had been switched! At this point the associates tried to discount the tv as an open item and offered me free screen cleaner to make it look “like new”, which was a direct insult to me given the amount of money I had spent on this item. I refused the offer and clearly & simply stated that I wanted an unopened, brand new Pioneer Elite Plasma television (same make and model or better) that I had originally purchased on 4/10/08. Best Buy/Magnolia Home Theater relentlessly denied me my right to a new unopened television and flatly refused to ship a new one to me and continued to coerce me into a situation to accept the model that had been opened and switched as my only alternative. After several more failed attempts the next day to get what I paid for, I turned to Attorney General’s office for help. It was only after the threat of Consumer Protection that the Best Buy Manager finally complied and said they were able to locate a brand new, unopened television. I gave Best Buy every opportunity to solve this issue on site and they chose to use a tactic of trying to wear the consumer (me) down over time to get me to agree to their terms to absorb costs associated with their mix-up. I am seeking damages associated with the store's questionable activity.

Extra Warrenty Scam!

Before I went to college in 2002 I purchased a Toshiba laptop from Best Buy with my graduation money. I even opted to pay extra for an extended warrenty just in case something happened to it. I was informed that the extra plan would also cover screen damage, which the manufacturer's warrenty would not. I couldn't have been more excited. Shortly after, the CD drive stopped working. I called and was able to take it to a contracted shop to get it repaired since there wasn't a Best Buy store in Hawaii at that time. Then, about a year later, my laptop wasn't even a year old, it completely crashed. The hard drive went up in smoke. I admitt this was probably my fault since I was downloading music from a "share" site. But in order for Best Buy to fix it, I had to pay them $60 an hour to removed my information and put it back on my computer after they had fixed it. Let me tell you, I had A LOT of files. My whole life was on there! The year after that (2years from when I purchased the laptop) I got a crack in my screen during my flight back to school after summer vacation. I wasn't worried since the 3-year service plan I had purchased was supposed to cover this sort of thing. However, when I called I was told that screen damages were not covered by this plan. That was the entire reason for purchasing the plan to begin with. I felt very cheated. I ended up sending my computer to a comany in Jersey to be fixed, costing me around $400. Which, at face value, isn't a bad price. But when you pay $350 for a service plan that was supposed to have handled this type of problem, it's a hard price to swallow. I have chosen to not do business with Best Buy because of this experience. Shortly after my experience 60 Minutes (or maybe it was 20/20) did a report on Best Buy's extended warrenty scam. Research before you buy. Sad things like this have to happen. Be careful!

They give you a brochure that covers exactly what the plan does. Do not complain if you did not read it an understand it. I find it very bad how many americans will just sign/agree to anything and not read it.

"I never buy extended warranty, its just a scam to get extra profit for the store,ther/s one born everyday"

it's not a scam if you understand how it works. the main problem before was accidents, now their laptops cameras and camcorders cover accidents.

buy a 3 year warranty on any device..... use it for 35 months and smash it against the wall.... any monkey can understand that

i've replaced cameras/laptops/camcorders and get a new one just about every year.

Learn to read!

And yes, I now see my spelling and gramatical errors. (It's "warranty" not "warrenty".) That's what I get for not proof reading. How embarrassing!
