unfortunately we won't be coming back to this store (or best buy again). we were verbally told that we can return a product that we had purchased prior to a move from another state (this product was shipped to Illinois) at any time within a couple months of receiving it (which apparently was a lie, probably to make a sale). we received the product about a month and half ago (was shipped to a family member's house) and we moved back several weeks ago. we opened the product and it was damaged, so we brought the product back to best buy. customer service told us it didn't matter what the other employee had told us, on the receipt it states "14 day return policy on most items". the frustrating things are: the lie that the employee told us at best buy just to make a sale, the 14 day return policy for everyone (UNLESS you are an elite member... that just makes this return policy worse because apparently it wasn't that customer service couldn't help us, they wouldn't). we would never abuse a return policy and it is unfortunate that this company could not give us store credit or a refund, especially at this day and age where most reputable and successful companies do have a better return policy. we are pretty upset. we understand that companies don't mind upsetting a couple customers here and there, but that is eventually what determines the course of a successful vs unsuccessful business. i guess we'll never know what it is like to be an elite member, as we will not be going back to best buy...

Order cancelled by Best Buy

I wanted to buy a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 with the largest disk and memory. It was not stocked in the store, and the salesperson said he couldn't order it, and that I would have to order it online. Took forever online (their pages display verrryyyy slowly). Unfortunately, my credit card company fraud prevention system (for this purchase of over $2300) flagged it and phoned me to see if it was OK. I confirmed that it was an OK purchase, but by that time, Best Buy's system had already sent me an email saying the order was on hold. I called the number they gave me and after wading through menu *** I got a nice lady who spent about 20 minutes fixing everything. Or so she said. Today I got an email from Best Buy saying the order was cancelled. I called the local store and indeed they are sending the stuff back to the warehouse and I would have to order AGAIN. Not friggin' likely.

It is insulting to think that they would give you more. Laptops depreciate at nearly 1/3 their value per year.

1/3 of 680 is 224 (you say only having it for 8 months so ill give you 170 depreciation, being generous), now you laptops is worth $505, now consider that they have to clean your laptop(usually $50), wipe and reinstall to factory settings (they value that at $150), new ac adapter ($60) drops your value to $245.

Add another few months for this process and paying the shipping to and from warehouses (Best Buy stores are NOT ALLOWED to do this outside of a warehouse) and you can quickly see how they quoted you $50.

Not to mention that you probably bought that laptop on sale (originally 799, grabbed it for 680)

BEST BUY SELLS MOST COMPUTERS MARGINALLY ABOVE COST. ESPECIALLY LAPTOPS BECAUSE UNLESS YOU DROP $1200+ they are DISPOSABLE!!!

I believe the reason you were only offered that amount is because technology changes daily and losses value very quick. they also do not sell used computers.

So it seems pretty likely there is no margin for them.

I would say , sell the pc on ebay or Craigslist and then take the proceeds and purchase a new upgraded model you should have bought in the first place. It's a business not a charity the last I checked.

I purchased a TV for my son from best buy transported it 3 weeks ago to his locked apartment at school yesterday we set up his apartment at College. We opened the box slid out the TV and saw that the screen was cracked. We slide it back in box went to the store we bought it at best buy golden gate Mayfield Hts. They would not replace it they sent it out to the geek squad. We were told if they can't repair it we are out 500.00 ..not their problem.they stated they would fix screen for free! What kind of business runs like this? Very upset

My iPhone screen starting going dark on occasion. I took it to Best Buy and the phone would not act up in front a Geek. Then, my screen was completely dark on my iPhone after 2 weeks and would not come on at all. Best Buy made me wait over 4-days to replace it. I'd like to see any of the geek squad wait a day to be without their life line. I had purchased a protection plan for $14.99 per month believing if my phones breaks or something else happened that I would be covered for replacement. This is what the sales associate sold me on at that time. This protection plan is a total waste of money and a scam, because Best Buy doesn't give highlights such as you'll be waiting for days without a phone if something happens to it, or that you'll need to come back in the store until you can prove something is wrong with it, even though intermittent problems occur often. Beware of this scam! I wouldn't recommend this program to an enemy and I will never do business with Best Buy ever again!

Have you every tried using your carrier's "protection plan"? they make you wait up to 10 days if you don't want to pay for overnight shipping.

Best Buy has the best protection plan on the market (even with their deductible) Best buy allows you to order a replacement charger once for free as long as you have their protection plan.

I agree having to wait 4 days sucks but otherwise their protection plan is the best on the market.

I was trying to place an on-line order after logging into my account and it is forcing me to reset my password. Received the e-mail and was trying to change my old password on just alpha/numeric to a stronger password with special characters and upper/lower case and numeric and it will not take an 8 digit password and won't consider it strong until it is 16 digits. A WEP password should be strong enough for Best Buy if it is strong enough for my financials and corporate accounts. My account took 8 digits until this password reset happened this evening.

Inappropriate downloads during repair | Best Buy review from Joplin, Missouri

I took my son's laptop to Bestbuy in Joplin, MO for repairs in mid-July. The computer needed a new hard drive and new battery. When I picked up the computer and brought it home, my son noticed several inappropriate things in the browser. Things like "how to please your man sexually," "cutting videos," "sexual toys," etc. I took the computer back to the store and demanded answers. They searched the history and discovered that these sites were viewed while the computer was at the Bestbuy service center. I mean, really??? How idiotic are your employees that they are not smart enough to delete the web browser? The only good thing out of this is the store manager, Rodney, was very apologetic and worked hard on trying to resolve the issue. Of course, I am very angry and upset that my 13 y/o child had to be exposed to this inappropriate stuff and that I had to take my time, my gas and my $$$ to drive an hour each way, twice in one week to deal with this. I hope they figure out who did this and that person loses their job. I expected a lot more from Bestbuy and we will never shop at one of their stores again.

Did not cancel my anti-virus subscription | Best Buy review

I knew better, but let those douche-nozzles sucker me anyway! When I bought a laptop it came with 1 year free Trend anti-virus - but I had to give them my credit card number. I didn't want to, but the sales person assured me that I would receive a reminder in email to cancel the service after 1 year if I didn't want it. We went back and forth for several minutes, but finally I gave in. Four years later they are still billing me every freakin' year, and every freakin' year I have to reverse the charges. Each time they promise my subscription has been cancelled, but next year there will be another charge. This is a SCAM SCAM SCAM! And - it takes 15-30 minutes on hold before you can talk to someone, then it takes 1 month to reverse the charges. I vow to never shop at Best Buy again and when my local store goes broke - which it will because the prices are the highest anywhere in town - I am going to drink a margarita in their cold dark parking lot! I hope there is a special place in H*E/L-L for everyone who works for this organization!
