I went to purchase a camera at the store - none in stock. On line, they listed the Canon SX60HS at list price. When I did a Google search of pricing, 2 major camera companies had lower prices - Beach Camera and BuyDigital. The on-line help people at Best Buy told me...

Both the companies you listed market in gray goods. Read the fine print.

Unless it specifically states that it is an sealed USA model you you will most likely receive a model from overseas. Overseas model, no warranty, manual in different language.

Best Buy review: Absolutely Horrible.

I am a student at the University of Mary Washington and was in need of a new MacBook because mine had failed earlier that day. My mother drove two hours to meet me at the Fredericksburg location on Carl D Silver Parkway, and we discussed the different Macbook options, and prices, and student discounts. An employee quickly came over and offered to assist us. After making the final decision on which MacBook I wanted to purchase and what discounts I would receive, the employee went to go retrieve the laptop. It took at least fifteen minutes for him to finally find the keys and retrieve the new laptop. Once he finally brought the laptop over to my mother and I, I had to remind him again about the student discount, because he had already forgotten. So, in order to get the student discount, the employee attempted to pull up the internet on one of the display laptops, and didn't even know how to do so. Finally, with my help, he pulled up the browser and went to the Best Buy website and had me put my .edu email on College Student Deals. I checked my inbox, and I had received a confirmation email. I clicked "confirm", and was told I would receive a second email with a barcode that they could scan in order for me to receive the discount. We waited five minutes, and I had not received the second email. We tried this twice, and still, nothing. Another employee came over, and told me to check my junk folder. It was not there, and he told me to wait. I waited, and still, nothing. I ended up doing this on three different devices; my phone, as well as two display MacBooks. I had to log in and out of my school email, keep entering my .edu email on the website, keep clicking "confirm" on the first email, and after at least seven tries, I still did not receive the second email with the barcode to scan. I was told to wait ten more minutes, and it was suggested I tried logging into another computer and trying again. The employee that was helping me kept running over to who I assume was a manager, asking what to do. He kept running back and forth, and the higher-up employee never ended up coming back over to help, when clearly there was an issue, and the original employee was so obviously struggling. I asked the original employee if it was possible to manually deduct the discount, since I am a student and the glitch was on Best Buy's end. He went over to the other employee again, and came back over to let me know that they were unable to do so. I was finally told that if I were to receive the email with the barcode to scan in two weeks, that I could bring in the barcode along with my receipt, and would then be able to receive the student discount. If I didn't receive that email in seven or so tries and forty-some minutes that this went on, clearly I'm not going to receive it within the next two weeks. The original employee told me at least four times that the student discount would get me $100 off of my macbook purchase. But later on, I was told (very bluntly and completely unapologetically by the higher-up employee) that this was incorrect, and that the discount was only $50. This was incredibly misleading. I told the original employee that I also needed to purchase Microsoft Office for my new Mac, and he told me that with the purchase of the laptop, that I would be receiving $20 off. Then, when we got to the desk to pay, he told us that it actually wasn't the $140 Microsoft Office package which I was purchasing that was $20 off, but the $65 one-year package? This made absolutely no sense whatsoever, and was also extremely misleading. My mom then wrote a check for the two items. The employee had no idea how to run the check through the machine, and had to call someone else over. Another employee came over to help, and once the check went through the machine, it supposedly showed on the screen that he needed to call a number to authorize the check. The original employee had no idea how to use the Best Buy phone, so he proceeded to use his personal cell phone to call the number. He then had no idea what to say to the woman on the other end. He called another employee over to help him, and was then told that he needed to use the Best Buy phone, and so he had to be shown how to do so. My mother requested that the employee that had come over to help stay, because it was obvious that the original employee had no idea what he was doing. Once the original employee was reconnected with the woman who was trying to authorize the check, the other employee that had come over to help finally took the phone and talked to the woman to verify the check. After another five minutes or so, and after asking my mother all of the verification questions, and after having to repeat her phone number three times, the check was finally verified. During the time that the employee that came over to help the original employee was on the phone and waiting for the woman to verify the check, my mother told him that we had been having an awful experience so far. He responded by brushing off what my mother said by saying in a slightly sarcastic and uncaring way that "bad days get better". And at least four times in a disconnected, condescending manner, he told us that he "appreciated our business" and "thanked us" for "being so patient". He did not ask us what had occurred, did not get the manager, and did nothing to attempt to improve our negative experience. So, an hour and a half later, and $120 more than we were originally told that we would have to pay, our time at Best Buy was finally over. This was the absolute worst customer service that I have ever received. I will surely be taking my business elsewhere, and will never purchase anything from Best Buy again.

Best Buy review in Calgary, Alberta: Dont purchase Warranty for Tv's!!!!!

I bought a tv about three years ago. LG, plasma 50inch. With 5 year Warranty. The tv started shutting off on its own, randomly. I had LG come and replace the main baord. Still not working and now it was under best buy at this time. I called customer service which were i was treated very rudely too. I was set up for geek squad to come fix the problem. Two men came off and on for over 6 months. Replacing 4 parts. They still could not firgure it out. One was an older gentlemen and a younger one. The younger one treated me as though i did not know anything because i was a female. Funny, how he still could not do his job and fix my tv. Either way he continued to act as though he could not give me the go ahead to get a new tv because he did not know what to tell the insurance company. Not only that he acted as though it was money coming out of his own pocket. I finally after 18 months of this going on i threathened to go to our local news consumer watch to let people know where their warranty money was going, nowehere.Just the thought of what i went through is a nightmare and makes me wanna cry thinking about. I was told by the deerfoot meadows manager they would contact geek swad and see why this was going on for so long. I never heard back. The amount of people that had come through my home and seen what was going on was enough marketing on best buy alone. Dont waste your time or money or Sanity!!!!!

@No Best Buy

Agreed - Costco is one of the few places that actually goes BEYOND their return/exchange poolicy without any kind of hassle. I have purchased electronics, mattresses, and auto parts that I returned successfully without any issue, with good reason - all outside the timeframe in which I was supposed to be allowed. Great service!

Best Buy review in Toronto, Ontario: 4 Year Warranty Expiry

I purchased my Macbook back in 2010 with a four year warranty expected to expire in Sept 2014. A couple of days before expiry I thought I'd bring in my macbook for a final check to make sure everything was working adequately which to my knowledge I new there was an issue w/ the battery. The associate who assisted me in a manner of dis-interest and seemed to give me cold one-word answers or short-form answers to the questions I had regarding my warranty asked me,"Is it okay if we delete everything off of the computer?" I responded, only if he had to but I would prefer they not because I needed many of the info saved on there. He said to me that they would have to and when I asked him about the "Backup" line one the service application sheet in which he wrote, "no" I told him, "I see here that you have a choice to back up the info on the computer, so I would rather you change that no to a yes" and he said that they didnt have a choice to do so. It was also explained to me that it would take 5-10 business days to have my macbook checked, diagnosed, fixed, and returned back to me. This was FALSE. It took 2 weeks and 2 days to get it back and after the first week was when I got a call on what would be covered under my warranty and what was not and would then incurr additional fees (key word:"estimated" at $250) I refused the additional fixes and just asked that they fix my computer asap as I desparately needed it for school and was falling behind. He was unable to give me a ststus update on the services being done to the computer and its arrival time. Upon retrieving my macbook, EVERYTHING was deleted. Including my Microsoft office that I had paid over $200 for back in 2010 and could not find the original disc used to re-download it. I lost imperative information due to this service loss and now am experiencing a lot of difficulty in moving on in certain prior obligations and responsibilities. Pretty much I felt the backup could have be done since it was an option of yes or no, in which the asssociate wrote no. and they could have did their due dillengence in the part of excellent customer service by thoroughly explaining what pieces of info and/ or softwware would be deleted, as someone who is not that tech savvy, it had completely slipped my mind that microsoft word was not apart of the apple softwares and would therefore not remain. I spent more money and wasted plenty of time due to their laziness and time discrepancies. Best buy does not even offer and option to purchase extended warranty which is crazy for a computer that is suppose to apparently last my a lifetime..And what was worse was when I was asked to fill out a survey to review my latest service experience. The first question asked me if I had recently received service from a best buy location I was unaware of or never heard of and different from the location (dufferin-wilson) I had originally went in for my service; so I answered I don't know (because I didnt know where they shipped my computer to for repair, and yes I was informed that the repair would be done at another location that supplies mac parts). Following my Input the survey ended. I was unable to give my interpretation of my last service for whatever reason. I am incredibly upset with the negligence of the Geek Squad at Best Buy and hope that this review will encourage more training and development for the employees in regard to customer service as well as efficiency improvements on work practices and knowledge of services. Best buy needs to offer useful perks for its consumer, more specifically extended warranty, that way I could have waited for a break at school to hand in my macbook instead of falling behind classes because I was lied to about how long it would take to receive my macbook back.

take this as a lesson. Purchase a 2tb external usb backup.

They are inexpensive, and a great way to backup your laptop.

They should be able to hold several 'full' backups. there is absolutely no excuse for loosing data.

Basically you're saying you hadn't backed up any of your information. Don't blame Best Buy. You are always responsible for your own backups.

Best Buy - Credit Card Review

A very nasty, unprofessional , inpolite and apparently racist Sales girl in Bestbuy Riverdale by Rt 23 N, her name is Coutney ( she refused to gave me her last name) shouted at me when I asked her something, throw away my driver 's license and credit card on my face and left me waiting. everyone other staff left the scene, she was swearing in front of me and said something discriminatory words against Filipinos. When I said I will report you, she said laughing I dont care, this tine the front desk guy was around but never said anything. She should not be working there. You should investigate this matter and take disciplinary action before I will call my lawyer and complaint for Racial Discrimation. I will be checking again and again until I will give justice to my complaint. Thank you.

I have a feeling that this is only half of the story and you're leaving a whole lot of out. If she yelled at you, I'm sure you deserved it for thinking you were entitled to something that you weren't or wanting something for free, or trying to return a broken item that you bought a year ago.

And I'm about 99% sure that she didn't say anything racist towards Filipinos.

You probably just added that to your story to make your side of the story sound better. There's not one lawyer that will take your case and if they do you will lose thousands on lawyers and court fees and lose the lawsuit anyway.

Best Buy review in Denver, Colorado: I got Duked by Worst Buy

1.0
Details
Just had the worst experience at the best buy off of Colorado Blvd. and Mexico In Denver Colorado! My Phone screen broke in my pocket and I of course have a protection plan with best buy but that did not matter to the geek squad. Really best buy thats how you treat customers. They told me I will have to pay $150.00 to replace my phone. I did not agree and as I was leaving the supervisor at best buy told me to *** Off under his breath. I never had this problem before and I have had a phone service plan for years with best buy. What is the protection plan for then! The S4 costs only 150.00 to replace new why would I pay the same price for a phone that I can buy off the shelf for the same price. Especially when I pay 20 a month in phone protection for the last 4 years! I spend thousands of dollars every year for my business to best buy but I will never again. I am in internet marketing and the last thing you want to do is ruin your rep by screwing over good customers. I will be making my presents felt every way through blogs, promotions, social media, and word of mouth on how terrible and ripped off I feel from best buy. Thank You Best Buy for ruining our relationship! Sincerely, One of your best customers!

that's policy to charge service fees...they changed that. learn to read and educate yourself on what you buy and learn to take care of your phone!

And when you start running your mouth on social media, everyone will see what a dumba$$ you are for complaining about something that every major carrier does as the other poster said. You are only embarrassing yourself.

#885866

Do some research before you post somewhere and look like an *** There is a fee for doing a claim on your phone anywhere you would have gone. At&t, verizon, sprint, and any other major carrier will charge you for a claim and limit it to 3 claims per year or every so often.

Go ahead and call around and see what these phone carriers tell you. That'll shut you up. Best Buy only is compliant with industry standards.

It's the law since it's an insurance claim. Get some facts before you ramble on like an ***.

Best Buy is THE Worst Place to Buy Anything!

It took me more than 45 min to place an order for a microwave! On line system did not work (despite multiple attempts) and the operator had to manually take the order. When I called customer service about the coupon I wanted to use, she had NO idea on how to enter the code or could not even tell me if the coupon was valid. Needless to say, I will not make any buy anything at Best Buy. I had to order this from Best Buy as Amazon did not have the item. On the plus side, order is expected to arrive within a day.

Best Buy review: ARROGANT, RUDE, and FALSE INFORMATION PROVIDED

I have gone into the Best Buy in Dekalb, IL twice. Both experiences were less than satisfying, I was angry leaving the building. The first experience, my roommates and I were going in to buy a TV. Though one employee was doing his best to find us the best price and TV for our budget, once we got to the checkout it was a totally different story. The cashier was supposed to be finding a TV at a store we could go pick it up at. He was on his phone the whole time, didn't tell us what he was doing, and had us standing there waiting for almost 20 minutes. We were buying a $300 TV, we felt that our purchase was not enough for the employees to treat us with respect. The second time I went into this store I was looking for a power cord for my TV, the woman in the front was nice and pointed me in the right direction. The salesperson in the TV department however, looked at me like I was crazy when I said what I needed. He showed me the only power cord they had, which wasn't the right one, and I inquired about whether I could purchase it from the company directly, in which he said to not bother because they don't distribute the parts, he said my best bet was EBay... He was rude, arrogant, and acted as if what I needed was *** and he couldn't help me so he didn't even try. While I was leaving the store the same woman who was nice, asked me if I found what i needed and I didn't, so she aggressively tried to sell me a TV as I'm clearly trying to get out of the store as fast as I can. This store is a poor example of customer service.
