Elementary School told they won $25,000.00 but Phishing Expedition | Best Buy review from Austin, Texas

Our school was told by an employee at Best Buy over the summer that we were the recipient of the $25,000.00 Best Buy Education technology make-over. He asked for our Superintendent and Technology Purchasing director's names so that the funds could proceed down the proper pipeline. So as a teacher I had to locate and tell our Superintendent that we have been contacted by Best Buy about the winning. Usually teacher's don't have contact with their Superintendents. Unless it's good news. Well, Best Buy contacted our Superintendents office and led them to believe that our school won as well. The Superintendent's office then contacted our Principal and notified her that we were the official winners. So, we waited and waited for our over-sized check. Nothing came. When we went to the Best Buy Education website, we saw the actually winners. We were not even a runner-up. We then find out the person that called us was phishing for our Superintendent and Technology Purchasing Director's information to sell products to our district. Not a good maneuver. We were told that they repurposed the sales rep. that called our district. No apologies or compensation. We do not expect the full winnings if we did not win. However, an apology and small offering would be great. But no!

Best Buy is not the one to blame so why do they need to give you compensation for something they were not a part of? If you understood how a phishing scam works you would know that some entity tries to pretend they are another to steal information from a source. Reading this review I can see why you were so easily fooled in the first place.

How long can Best Buy keep me on hold?
I called the Vernon Hills, Illinois Best Buy to see if they had a router in stock. The auto system said that my call would be answered in order, and that three customers were ahead of me. So I waited. Five minutes. Ten minutes. At 15 minutes, I sat on the couch with a book, put my phone on speaker, and waited to see how long it would take. After FORTY-THREE MINUTES ON HOLD, someone answered. At this point, I didn't care about the router anymore. I asked to speak to a manager. After a moment, the associate said that the manager was busy, and asked if he could help. I told him that I had been on hold for 43 minutes, and wanted to talk to the manager. Rather than apologizing, or saying that he'd get the manager right away, he said: "Well, I've been answering calls, and I didn't see anyone on hold for that long." So basically, the associate was either saying that I had mistaken a much shorter period of time for 43 minutes, or he was accusing me of lying. I gritted my teeth and asked to speak to the manager. The associate went away for a couple more minutes, then came back to say that the manager was going to be busy for a while with something else. I waited a few seconds to see if he would offer to take my phone number. Of course he did not. So I said I'll give you my number and the manager can call me back. He took my number. That was at around 7:45pm last night. I still have not gotten a phone call from a manager, and it's been several days. I heard a story saying that Best Buy was making a comeback. With customer service like this, I have no idea how that can be. I don't know if I will ever shop at Best Buy again. P.S. I have a screen shot of my phone showing the length of the call.

Dude calm down. Calls can take a while especially if the people ahead of you are wanting everything explained to them or if they are making a large order.

Deceptive about No Interest for 18 mos. | Best Buy review from Webb City, Missouri

The clerk at the Joplin Mo. BB told me I could open a credit account, with NO interest for 18 mos. then they would start charging interest after that. What they did NOT tell me, was that it was "Defered Interest",, which means they keep track of the interest for the first 18 mos. and then tack that hefty little surprise on your bill on the 19th mo. I think that not telling the whole truth, and making it clear is nothing less than a blatant lie..... Never will darken their door again,, and will post my experience to everyone I can..UNETHICAL.

Bought a stove online (my fault) and it was the cheapest and poorest quality I've ever seen. I asked for it to be returned. They have yet to pick it up or credit my account. They keep cancelling the pick up saying they "don't have the product I ordered on the truck". Everyone from customer service to the warehouse is dishonest and after many scheduled and no show appointments we are still waiting for this mess to be straightened out. It's the most disorganized and mismanaged business we've ever dealt with. On the other hand, HH GREGG was fantastic and 100% better in quality of service and they actually delivered when they said they would.

Repair facility dropped my laptop and broke it beyond repair | Best Buy review from Indianapolis, Indiana

After a week of no updates as to where my computer was in the "process" of being repaired I phoned them myself and found out they determined it was too expensive to repair so they just "scrapped" it. When I dug further for an explanation they then said the repair cost more than the computer was worth so they decided not to repair it. What the Frank? It was sent in because the sound jack was loose. I didn't believe them so I called back later the same day and had the guy did deeper into why - he found out it was damaged from being dropped - before I could say I didn't drop it he said it looks like someone at the repair facility dropped your computer and broke it. I don't see that on my update screen. He said it was on his "private" message board not my update status. Then- You have two options. #1). They can return your computer to you broken. #2). you can get a replacement computer of "like kind and value". What the Frank again. I informed Mr. Geek that I wanted my computer shipped back to the store I dropped it at so that I could see the damage myself and attempt to get what files I could off of it. And, I wanted a full refund of the cost of the computer with the incidental fee's they attached when I bought it less then a year ago. He said he didn't believe they would do that but that he would set up an appointement for me if I wanted to. Ya think? I meet with them in one hour.

I ordered a external hard drive, which i needed very badly. I got online at a Bestbuy website, i got it not longer after and it was defective, i emailed them which took like 3 days of emailing and finally they told me to phone, so i did and they told me that in order for me to return the product i had to have a printer or access to one or go to a Bestbuy store... well for one i didn't own a printer nor did i know anyone who did and i couldn't get to a Bestbuy, one reason i was shopping online. So they plainly said on the phone, that its their policy to not send out shipping labels through the mail.... which basically was saying i was screwed right from the beginning because i had no idea you had to have access to or own a printer in order to get a return of any kind or just so happen to be close enough to an actual Bestbuy store. So they did NOTHING to fix the problem beyond that because they had my money and an excuse via a "policy" to keep my money and the defective product. The effort it would have taken to send me a shipping label would be absolutely no big deal, a lot less of a big deal them me racing all around town finding a printer and someone who is nice enough to print me out a shipping label so i can get my money back or traveling to find a Bestbuy. The fact of the matter from what i think, is that Bestbuy absolutely does not care about their customers and i will from now on encourage people to stay away from that store! I would have bought a lot of other items from Bestbuy if they had better business ethics, now to me they seem like some guy in an ally way selling broken goods to people. Oh by the way, they never said on the site that i HAD to own a printer in order to get any kind of "Easy" return (Easy return was on the site!)

Best Buy Never Again

Spent 7 weeks trying to get my LG washing machine and gas LG dryer fixed under their Geek Squad exteneded warranty. What a nightmare, hours on hold with the Geek Squad and they kept cancelling appointments for one reason or another.....finally they conceded that they don't service LP dryers and needed to use a 3rd party and couldn't find one. So my complaint when to "special forces" and I was told that they couldn't find a third party to come out and service my appliances. Ended up 'giving me' a new washer and dryer (in store I was going to have to pay out of pocket $400 for the cheapest LG frontloaders, and another $200 for the install. ) What a run around and the kicker the new Samsung(had to get the cheapest front loaders in the store to use my store 'credit'. )are so tall when stacked that I have to stand on a step stool to use it....not acceptable sending another complaint to the BBB.

Shady practice with promotional financing offers | Best Buy review from Portland, Oregon

I purchased an XBox One bundle using the Best Buy credit card 18 month 0% interest promotion. I immediately set up automatic payments to make sure I paid it off well before the 18 months was up. In the 18 months I made a few smaller purchases using the card (less than $200). I just noticed that my balance seemed high. Since I signed up for paperless statements I don't look at a hard copy each month and since I don't make many purchases with the card I don't review my account regularly. I went online and looked through previous statements, and in July 2015 I was charged with a deferred interest charge of over $200. I called Best Buy customer service to get an explanation and they said that since I didn't pay off the promotional rate in 18 months I was charged the interest. I explained how it wasn't possible that it wasn't paid off since I set up automatic payments specifically to have it paid off on time. The rep informed me that the payments I was making went to the small purchases I made after my initial promotional purchase so the balance was not going to the promotional purchase. I was upset and said that would be important for customers to know. He said that it's in the small print of the monthly statements. I told him that i don't even get paper statements and the company even promotes the use of online/electronic bill pay and statements for sustainability reasons. He didn't care, he passed me on to a manager...who also didn't care. They acknowledged that some may find this practice shady but it is in the fine print. I am so upset that I made timely payments every month for almost 2 years and they wouldn't even work with me. I paid my account in full (including the extra $200 they swindled) and closed my account. They didn't bat an eye. I will NEVER shop at Best Buy or refer people to Best Buy again. I might consider stepping foot into a store again if I need to find which high-priced electronic I want to purchase, and then leave to order it on Amazon.

The amount you pay each month first goes the the purchase that needs to be paired off the quickest. Because you added more to the card on 6 months financing or standard credit, those had to be paid off first. You didn't pay the amounts off within the financing offer

I knew when I clicked on the link that it would be someone who was not taking responsibility for themselves. The thing you have to understand about 0% financing is that they are going to charge you the deferred interest if there is any way possible.

It's the way the finance company makes money. They know human nature and they know that people often screw these things up.

I'm surprised that you didn't read the fine print or research these 0% finance deals. I'd never take one myself.
